Beginning in the 1830’s and lasting 100–150 years, the most common place to find writings and speeches on the Word of Wisdom was in LDS newspapers and magazines. In the articles below I share some highlights. (I will add more later.)
President Heber J. Grant (1856–1945)
Ray G. Cowley, M.D. (1919–1997) and his article, “An 1833 Guide for the Prevention of Heart Disease,” Improvement Era (1969).
Paul H. Peterson, “The Sanctity of Food: A Latter-day Saint Perspective,” in Religious Educator 2, no. 1 (Provo, UT: BYU Religious Studies Center, 2001). This is one of my favorite articles on the Word of Wisdom!
